There are more and more complaints regarding infringements on the part of physicians. The mentioned trend is accompanied also by legal changes,
which aim at an efficient settlement of cases resulting from inappropriately provided healthcare benefits. Activities incompliant with due diligence requirements,
that is medical malpractice, very often constitute a reason to hold physicians to account. What are the types of malpractices committed by
physicians and what can be done to avoid them?

This paper briefly summarizes issues with research papers. Knowledge on tracking down the best evidence and critical appraisal is essential not only for
scientists, who are actively involved in research, but for all clinicians and health care professionals.

Drug interactions occur when two or more drugs interacting with each other in such a way that the effectiveness or toxicity of one or more drugs is modified.
Interactions can be disadvantageous if they lead to increased toxicity of a drug or reducing its effectiveness. Some interactions can also be advantageous
when their occurrence is fed to the additive or synergistic effects. In clinical practice we encounter on a daily basis with connotations of drugs,
the consequence of which is to reduce the effectiveness of therapy and an increased risk of side effects. This paper describes the most common drug
interactions encountered by primary care physicians.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) plays a major role in many very important tissues such as brain, retina, neurons, blood vessel wall cells, and others as well as
being a precursor of inflammatory and immune mediators. In this article we will review the available evidence regarding the role of long chain polyunsaturated
fatty acids, namely docosahexaenoic (DHA, C22:6, n-3) and eicosapentaenoic (EPA C20:5, n-3), in supporting cardiovascular function.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by alternate periods of remissions and exacerbations with typical morphology
and distribution of skin lesion. The basic feature of the disease is the extreme dryness of the skin and intensive pruritus. Atopic dermatitis
is one of the most frequent skin diseases of the childhood and in most cases it begins in the infantile period or before the fifth year
of life. Its pathophysiology is complex, thus the therapeutic strategy should be multidirectional primarily targeted on patient’s quality of life
improvement and prevention of other atopic allergy symptoms. This paper reviews pathogenic issues and recent recommendations as well
as practical approach to skin care among atopic children.

Paper presents character of tobacco dependence and its prevention as a part of daily physician practice. Article discusses risk factors associated with tobacco
dependence development in polish population. Additionally, paper points out numerous health costs of tobacco products exposure and possible
difficulties in treatment of selected chronic diseases in tobacco-addicted patients. Tobacco dependence prevention recommendations are discussed as
a part of first-order, second-order and third-order prevention. Among presented preventive methods, the 5 A’s approach as a brief intervention is introduced,
including available assessment methods for measuring severity of tobacco dependence and readiness to quit smoking.

The reported incidence of tick-borne diseases has increased in Poland in recent years. Therefore, the issue of Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis is
currently often faced by both paediatricians and general practitioners. The paper presents standards for the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions,
based on the current recommendations of European, US and Polish experts. The practical issues related to the affected regions, risk factors and the methods
for tick removal are also raised.

Poor diet is a major contributor to chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity and hypertension.
Lifestyle factors, especially healthy dietary practices are important in prevention and treatment of these problems. Most popular restrictive
slimming diets result in quick loss weight, but cause a rebound effect, nutritional deficits and even symptoms of depression. Dieting plan should
be supervised by an experienced dietitian, consultant or general practitioner. Lifestyle medicine seems to be an effective new approach to chronic
diseases prevention.
