Abstract
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common infections in children. Estimated cumulative incidence of UTIs in children and adolescents up to 18 years of age is 5-7.8%. This condition is a common reason for visits in the primary care physician’s office, and if necessary, the hospital stays. The diagnostic and therapeutic approach to children with UTI has significantly changed over the last decade. The universal introduction of prenatal ultrasound diagnostics contributed to the early detection of urinary tract defects, the most important pathology predisposing to UTI. In this article the authors present the expert opinion - based recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic approach in UTI, in relaton to the results of meta-analysis, multicenter prospective studies, scientific societies positions and recommendations of government health agencies published in the last decade.
